Foursquare changed the way they display an individual’s badges today. The last profile page redesign limited the number of badges displayed to 60. All of the attained badges can now be proudly seen and displayed by the user in what Foursquare is calling the “Trophy Case.”
When viewing your foursquare badge page (which, by the way, can now be seen with a personal URL), the badges are organized into three categories. All Badges groups all of your badges together, sorted with the newest first. Each badge is displayed with the date that it was unlocked. The other two categories are broken into foursquare and partner badges – with event badges being a sub-category of partner.
The new layout makes it much simpler to see which badges you have unlocked, and which badges you have not. For those badges that you have not received, you will see a hint describing how to get it if you hover over the icon (or, if you are an avid follower of the Matters of Grey badge list you will already know how).
When you click on one of your badges, it will show you the date and location that you unlocked it (at the time of press, this dating system was returning incorrect dates). If the badge displayed is a foursquare badge or an event badge (Comic-Con, Banksy etc), it will also show a scrolling bar of your other unlocked badges of that type. If you have clicked on a partner badge however, it does not display your other partner badges on this screen. For both the partner and the Foursquare badges, the bottom of each badge page will show you which of your Foursquare friends have also unlocked this badge.
With the release of this new trophy case comes the release of a new partner program. In the past, companies wishing to have a badge were required to work with foursquare directly on the details. Now with the new program, there is an easier way to submit a request with Foursquare vowing to review every request. Foursquare also promised today in their blog, that the new partner badges will have their own unique shield-like shape.
After beginning with only 16 core badges, Foursquare has increased its badge list to over 240. Now there is a clean way for the user to display these badges with pride.
